Cane growers continue protest for dues

NAUDERO:Local sugarcane growers continued their protest on the fourth consecutive day here on Wednesday demanding payment of their three years old dues.

The angry growers also established a protest camp in front of the Naundero Sugar Mill main gate.

Shaheri Action Committee Naundero leader Ghulam Hyder Narejo, Chamber of Agriculture, Larkana Chapter President, Siraj Rashdi, and others also joined the protesting growers showing solidarity with them.

Protesting growers included Ali Gul Abro, Liaquat Ali Kori, Muhammad Ismail, Aijaz Kertio,, Ghulam Qadir Shah,. Badaruddin Mohil, Nazir Jamali, Rahmat Kalhoro, Qurban Bhutto, Moula Bux Brohi and others.

Talking to newsmen, they claimed that over Rs140million dues are outstanding against the Naundero Sugar Mill authorities since past three years. They said when they reach here to collect money, sugar mill officers order security guards to close down the gates and we are not allowed even to talk to them.

They said they will continue their protest until their arrears are cleared by the mill owners. They warned if their dues were not paid they will not leave the place.

They said that on one hand PPP Chairman has been appointed Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the National Assembly and on the other hand growers of Larkana, Khairpur and Kambar-Shahdadkot districts have been protesting for four days in his own hometown for their rights but Sindh Government has failed to take any notice of this issue.

They urged Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to take immediate notice of their sufferings and direct the owners to make outstanding payment immediately.
