NCOC: (58 more deaths, 3,308 new cases of Covid-19 reported during last 24 hours)

ISLAMABAD:As the second wave of Coronavirus sustains its rise in Pakistan, 58 more deaths and 3,308 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours.

 

According to the latest statistics of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the death toll has now reached 8,361 and 355,000 patients stand recovered from the pandemic in the country.

 

There are now 53,126 active cases of virus infection and positive results ratio is about 7 point 94 percent.

Minister: (Despite Covid-19, Pakistan’s economic performance remained strong: Khusro)

ISLAMABAD:Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiar has said despite Covid-19, Pakistan’s economic performance remained strong due to prudent policies of the government.

 

In a statement on Sunday, he said Macro Economic Indicators showed positive trend during the last six months and growth is being witnessed in different sectors.

 

He said Current Account Balance is one point two billion dollars after 17 years and construction package has augmented the production.

ISPR: (Nishan-e-Haider Major Shabbir Sharif’s 49th martyrdom anniversary being observed)

ISLAMABAD:The 49th martyrdom Day of 1971 war hero, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider is being observed today (Sunday).

 

He was awarded Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military gallantry award, for his valor and bravery during the 1971 war.

 

Pakistan Army has paid glowing tribute to Maj. Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, who was also recipient of Sword from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul and Honour and Sitara-e-Jurat in 1965.

The Director General Inter Services Public Relations ISPR), in a Tweet, said that Major Shabbir Sharif was symbol of valour and patriotism.

 

His heroic actions in 1965 and 1971 wars remind us that it’s not numbers but faith, devotion and courage in adversity which make nations triumph.

Cold and dry weather to prevail over most plain areas

KARACHI:Met office has forecast that on Sunday, cold and dry weather is likely to prevail over most plain areas of the country, while cloudy weather condition with light rain (snowfall over hills) is expected at isolated places in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

 

On Monday, cloudy weather condition with rain (snowfall over hills) is expected in Islamabad, Potohar region, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and north Balochistan. Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country. Fog is likely to prevail in central and southern districts of Punjab during morning hours.

 

Past 24 Hour Weather: Cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However rain occurred in:

Call to extend deadline for filing tax returns

KARACHI:Mian Anjum Nisar, President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Sheikh Sultan, Rehman Vice President, have urged the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)Muhammad Javed Ghani to extend deadline for filing annual income tax returns from 8th December 2020 to 15th February 2021.

 

The President FPCCI said that a large number of business community members had not been able to file their tax returns mainly due to COVID-19 effects on whole of the working environment and now the second wave which was more severe and requiring strict observation of SoPs had also significantly disturbed business activities all over the country. This has slowed down the normal economic and commercial activities.

 

He further informed that there were also some discrepancies being faced in filling of income tax returns when a tax payer was requested to file two types of returns relating to partnerships, importers and suppliers.

 

Nisar and office bearers of the FPCCI had requested to extend the deadline of filing of income tax returns till 15th February 2021 as huge returns were pending for submission due to certain discrepancies while filling the returns, political situation and above all the severe COVID-19 rose in cases all over the country.

(CITY): Pakistan International Squash Tournaments from Dec 7

KARACHI:Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) in collaboration with Pakistan Air Force will be organizing Pakistan International Squash Tournaments for Men and Women from December 07-11 in Islamabad.

 

The men event has a prize money of $ 12,000, whereas women event has $6,000 as prize money. A large number of squash players are participating in this mega event.

 

Sports are an important medium for bringing people together and participation in sports helps in improving leadership, teamwork and communication skills along with promoting a healthier lifestyle and presenting a positive image of the country internationally.

 

The tournament is also being organized to provide opportunity to female players from all across the country to challenge their mental and physical toughness. This tournament is a true manifestation of the PAF’s commitment in promoting sports both at national and international levels.

Minister: (Pakistan provided irrefutable evidences of Indian state-sponsored terrorism to UN: FM)

ISLAMABAD:Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said Pakistan has provided irrefutable evidences of Indian state-sponsored terrorism to the United Nations.

 

Addressing a news conference in Multan on Sunday, he said India has become a terrorist state which has been taking unjustified measures against minorities’ particularly Muslim population in the country.

 

The Foreign Minister said voices against Kashmir policy are being raised within India now which is a big diplomatic achievement for Pakistan.

 

He said Pakistan has given two time consular access to India for Spy Kulbhushan Jadhav but New Delhi is escaping from legal process.

 

He said Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan and peace process between Afghan government and the Taliban is progressing.
