CJ LHC order IGP to recover abducted girl today

LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti on Sunday took notice of the abduction of a young girl from Lahore and directed Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab to recover her by 6:00 pm today.

The CJ LHC directed the IG Punjab to recover the girl and submit a report to him today. In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was abducted by motorists as she was going for matric exams along with her brother in the Shad Bagh area of Lahore.

Reportedly, four armed men disembarking from the four-wheeler, with one of them forcefully dragging the girl into their vehicle while the others slapping her brother. The police while confirming the entire episode reportedly said that they had registered a case against the incident and started a search for the girl.

In a later development, the police arrested 13 people in the case including the former fiancé of the girl, his parents and other suspects who were nominated in the case. The man who provided them with a pistol is also arrested, they said adding the pistol has also been recovered.

Police take control of Punjab Assembly building

LAHORE: Police have arrested DG Parliamentary Affairs Rai Mumtaz and also raided residences of Secretary Punjab Assembly and DG Coordination, according to a report on Sunday.

Police have also taken control of Punjab Assembly building and personnel have been deployed at all entrances of the house ahead of Sunday’s session.

Meanwhile, Speaker Punjab Assembly, who had summoned the session on May 22 instead of prior announced date of May 30, condemned the police action and claimed that all this was being done on directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Fake government is taking steps against constitution and now entire nation has seen true face of Sharifs, he added.

Imran announces long march to Islamabad on May 25

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday announced to hold long march to Islamabad on May 25.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Khan said that the institutions declared that they are neutral then stay neutral. He said: “I tell the police, the bureaucracy and the army, we will not be causing any damage. In 26 years of politics, we have always been peaceful.”

Khan said that this is a war of real independence and they are ready to fight. We prefer death over slavery. He also warned of taking action against the bureaucracy if any illegal action is taken.

Khan said that he had been repeating again and again that his life was in danger. The PTI chairman stated that on the 25th May, he would meet you in Islamabad on the Srinagar Highway and you have to reach there at 3pm.

Khan made it clear that they would never under any situation accept them. No matter how long we have to remain in Islamabad we will remain there. He said that the foreign conspiracy against Pakistan was hatched in the United States. The corrupt people joined them for regime change in the country. This conspiracy started eight months ago. “I was aware of it since last June,” he said.

Khan said that they had been trying to stop that conspiracy, but unfortunately, they could not. On March 7, the US Assistant Secretary of State threatened our ambassador. Donald Lu said that if Imran Khan is not removed then there would be problems for Pakistan. This conspiracy was not against me but against Pakistan, said PTI chairperson.

Effective operation against wheat hoarders launched

KARACHI: The provincial food department, on the directive of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has launched an effective operation against the wheat hoarders and so far it has recovered 1,017,585.5 bags/100 kg to avert wheat/atta shortage in the province.

The provincial government on a tip decided to recover wheat hoarded in different godowns all over Sindh. The chief minister constituted a committee under Secretary Food Raja Khurram and authorized them to conduct raids at the godowns where grain has been hoarded and impound the vehicles transporting the wheat illegally.

The food department raided a number of godowns in 22 districts of six divisions and recovered 1,017,585.5 bags of wheat, including 17,806 bags recovered from impounded vehicles on the different roads. The wheat recovered from Sukkur division come to 333,640 bags, includes 183,220 bags from Khairpur, 69,770 bags Ghotki and 80,650 bags from Sukkur.

The department recovered 46,880 bags of wheat from Shaheed Benazirabad division, including 28,000 bags from Naushehroferoze, 3900 bags Sanghar and 14,980 bags from Shaheed Benazirabad district. 232,255 bags have been recovered from five districts of Larkana Division- 28,400 bags from Jacobabad, 50,000 bags Kashmore, 25,255 bags Shikarpur, 97,000 bags Qambar-Shahdadkot and 31,600 bags from Larkano.

The department has recovered 402,310.5 bags from seven districts of Hyderabad Divisions. 347,000 bags from Dadu, 32,000 bags Jamshoro, 4,945 bags Hyderabad, 3,700 bags Matiari, 870 bags Tando Allahyar, 530 bags and 2343.50 bags Thatta/Sujawal. The department has also recovered 25,000 bags from Mirpurkhas district and 14,00 bags from different check posts set up at the entry and exit points of Karachi.

Minister Food Mukesh Chawla said that the drive against the hoarders would continue so that artificial shortage of wheat/atta could be averted in the province. He added that the official rate of wheat was Rs5,500 per 100 kg but the hoarders were trying to increase its price through hoarding. “They plan to release the grain in the market when its prices go up and they will mint money but have thwarted their plan.

Demo held against disappearance of Baloch women

QUETTA: Baloch Yakjehti Committee, BSO (Bijar) and Baloch Women Forum on Sunday staged a protest sit-in near red zone area of the provincial capital against enforced disappearance of Baloch women.

The protest sit-in under the aegis of Baloch Yakjehti Committee, Baloch Student Organization (Bijar) and Baloch Women Forum was staged near red-zone area of Quetta, demanding an end to enforced disappearance of Baloch women and lodging fake First Information Reports (F.I.Rs) against Baloch women.

Earlier, BYC, BSO (Bijar) and BWF took out rally from University of Balochistan. Chanting slogans “Jibri Gumshudgi Na Manzoor” enforced disappearance not acceptable, “Tamam Lapata Afrad ko reha karu” release all the missing persons and “CTD ki ghunda gardi, nahe chale gi” bullying of CTD will not run, participants of rally marched through different roads and reached red zone near Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Governors house where a protest sit-in was observed.

The protest sit-in was addressed by Dr. Marung Baloch, Chairperson, Baloch Yekjehti Committee, Zubair Baloch, Chairman, Baloch Students Organization (Bijar), and others. Protest sit-in near red zone continued till writing this report.

Karachiites overpower two robbers

KARACHI: Karachiites on Sunday overpowered two robbers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and handed over them to police after beating them up ruthlessly.

According to a report, two robbers were looting citizens in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the metropolis when a group of citizens overpowered them, tortured them ruthlessly and handed over to the police. The accused were identified as Danish and Kamran. Two pistols and looted valuables were also recovered from them.

The police have lodged a report and started a probe into the incident. The crime rate in Karachi has risen alarmingly as police have badly failed to control it. The citizens have appealed to the Sindh government to tighten noose around the robbers so that they could take a sigh of relief.

Call to probe into medicine expiring in June

QUETTA: Haji Muhammad Ibrahim Khan Noorzai, President, Balochistan Darts Association (BDA), has called on authorities to conduct inquiry into providing contraceptive medicines to the Directorate General, Population Welfare Department, Balochistan which is going to expire in June, 2022.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Noorzai said that more than 1500 contraceptive medicines had of late been dispatched to the Directorate General, Population Welfare Department, Balochistan for further distribution to the Basic Health Units and other field centres of Population Welfare Department across the province, but the mentioned contraceptive medicines would expire in June, 2022.

He added that it was impossible to utilize the said contraceptive medicines within a shorter period of time. He called on Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Chief Secretary Balochistan, Abdul Aziz Uqaili and other concerned authorities to probe the matter as to why expiry contraceptive medicines had been dispatched to Population Welfare Department, Balochistan and take strict disciplinary action against the responsible officers of Population Welfare Department, Balochistan.
