Pakistan Urges UN Security Council to Act Amid Rising Tensions with India

A high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan, spearheaded by former Foreign Minister Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, engaged in discussions with the President of the United Nations Security Council, H.E. Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana.

The meeting aimed to inform UN stakeholders about the regional tensions following what Pakistan describes as Indian provocations and aggression. Mr. Bhutto conveyed concerns over India”s allegations post the Pahalgam attack, criticizing them as baseless and lacking credible investigation. He condemned India”s military actions, including targeting civilians and disrupting the Indus Water Treaty, viewing these as threats to regional peace.

Mr. Bhutto emphasized Pakistan”s opposition to terrorism and highlighted its own experiences as a major victim. He called for a ceasefire, resumption of the Indus Water Treaty, and dialogue with India focusing on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute for lasting peace in South Asia.

The delegation urged the Security Council to uphold its role in ensuring peace, advocating for de-escalation and adherence to international law. Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett reassured the Council”s dedication to maintaining international peace as per its mandate.
