In a message on Thursday on the occasion of World Food Day, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the global issue of food scarcity and stressed the need for united efforts to tackle this significant challenge. Highlighting the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life,” he urged for collaborative action to ensure access to food, which is a fundamental human right.
The Speaker stressed the importance of sustainable agricultural strategies to achieve self-sufficiency and said that such measures are crucial for a strong economy. He advocated for the adoption of modern farming techniques by the agricultural community, emphasizing that empowering farmers is essential for increasing food production.
Sadiq also pointed out the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture and called for urgent action to promote climate-resilient agricultural practices. He revealed that the government is actively promoting these practices and suggested that abandoned lands be reclaimed through modern irrigation systems.
Furthermore, he highlighted the critical need to reduce food waste to effectively address scarcity. Stressing the importance of better resource utilization, he stated that this could significantly alleviate hunger and poverty.
The Speaker concluded his address by affirming the Parliament’s commitment to legislating for strengthening food security, ensuring the nation moves towards a future free from hunger and malnutrition.
