9 people were killed in a shooting during a riot near the US Consulate in Karachi.
According to details, a protest outside the US Consulate in Karachi over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei turned tense when protesters tried to enter the US Consulate, during which 9 people were killed in clashes with the police after riots.
After riots near the American Consulate on Mai Kolachi Road and stone-pelting by protesters on MT Khan Road, heavy shelling was carried out by the police, a traffic police post under the Sultanabad bridge was also set on fire.
Tear gas shelling and baton charge were used by the police to disperse the crowd, but the situation became more serious when the protesters allegedly broke the consulate gate and entered the premises. According to the Edhi Trust press release, the death toll in the incidents of firing and unrest near the US Consulate on Mai Kolachi Road has risen to nine.
In addition to the confirmed deaths, several other people were also reported to be injured during the violent incidents.
Rescue teams reached the scene, while Edhi ambulances transferred the deceased and the injured to the Civil Hospital.
