Gharo SHO and Head Constable Suspended for Alleged Collusion with Drug Dealers in Thatta

Two senior police officials of Gharo Police Station have been suspended on charges of providing protection to influential drug dealers and deliberately underreporting a large consignment of narcotics seized from a boat in the coastal area of Keti Bandar.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Thatta, Sajid Ameer Sadozai, took decisive action today against Gharo’s Station House Officer (SHO) Abdul Hameed Rodnari and Head Constable Yousuf Hangoro. Both officers have been ordered to report to the police lines, and a formal inquiry into their conduct has been initiated.

This disciplinary action follows the recent recovery of a boat near Ahmed Jat Jetty, in which gutka material and other prohibited items were found. The case registered by the police only showed 500 kilograms of gutka powder and 500 packets of gutka mawa, and legal proceedings were initiated against the five laborers on the boat.

However, a confidential investigation conducted under the direction of SSP Sadozai revealed that the boat allegedly contained a much larger quantity of narcotics. The investigation suggests that the major portion of the contraband was handed over to powerful drug dealers, while a minimal amount was officially recorded to prosecute the boat’s crew.

Furthermore, the confidential investigation also revealed that along Thatta’s coastal belt, particularly within the jurisdiction of Gharo police, key figures involved in the large-scale drug trade have allegedly enjoyed the patronage of police officials, protecting them from legal action.

In response to these revelations, SSP Sadozai immediately removed the SHO and the Head Constable from their posts. Their official charge has been withdrawn, and they have been sent to the Thatta Police Headquarters pending the outcome of the formal investigation.
