Acknowledging a significant drop in cotton production over the past few years, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced on World Cotton Day that her administration is making vigorous efforts to boost the crop’s output through modern technology and a series of major agricultural projects.
In a message released today, the Chief Minister emphasized the global significance of the crop, describing it as the sole source of raw material for the worldwide textile industry. She stated that the international observance of the day underscores the fiber”s crucial role.
To combat the recent slump in yield, the Punjab government has initiated several large-scale programs aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector. These include the Agricultural Graduate Internship program, the Kisan Card, the Green Tractor Scheme, and the distribution of Super Seeders.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif further detailed that her government is committed to providing farmers with free machinery for every crop. She highlighted that agricultural interns are being utilized across the province to help improve cultivation practices for all farm products.
The Chief Minister asserted that increasing cotton production by incorporating advanced technology is a pressing need of the current time, reinforcing her government”s commitment to revitalizing a sector vital to the textile industry.
