Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi has sought a joint working plan from Solid Waste Management officers in the next meeting. He also rejected claims of a shortage of sanitation staff in the city and directed four different urban bodies to create a joint strategy to solve sanitation problems through better cooperation.

During a meeting, the Director of Operations for Solid Waste Management (SWM) Sukkur briefed the commissioner, stating that the organization’s 494 sanitary workers are insufficient for the city’s needs and that more employees are required.

The SWM director stated that in addition to his department, the staff of the Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC), the Town Committee, and various Union Council (UC) committees also perform sanitation duties throughout the city.

In response, Commissioner Qureshi suggested that the staff shortage could be addressed if the manpower of all four bodies is considered collectively. He said, “Everyone’s job is the same: to clean the city.”

He emphasized the common goal among all administrative bodies. The Sukkur Commissioner said, “Whether it’s the SMC administration, the Town Committee, or a UC committee, everyone wants to see the city clean.”

To end this uncoordinated approach, the commissioner directed the authorities to prepare a joint working plan in collaboration with the SMC, Town, and UC committees. He stressed that, “Problems can be solved with better coordination.”

The directive specified that the new strategy should clearly demarcate responsibilities for different areas and identify the officers in charge of each zone.

Mr. Qureshi concluded the meeting by ordering the officers to present the completed joint working plan in the next meeting for review and implementation.
