Severe floods have wrought widespread destruction across Gilgit-Baltistan, submerging hundreds of homes and leaving numerous areas devastated, prompting an urgent call for federal government assistance for rehabilitation and recovery efforts.

The grim situation was detailed by Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah during a meeting with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori at the Governor’s House today. Governor Tessori expressed profound concern over the calamity, affirming that the people of Sindh stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their brethren in Gilgit-Baltistan during this difficult period.

During their discussion, the two officials exchanged views on federal development projects, the promotion of tourism, and other matters of mutual interest.

Governor Shah emphasized that the cooperation of the federal government is indispensable for compensating the losses and restoring the flood-ravaged territories. He painted a stark picture of the disaster, stating that multiple regions have been severely impacted by the deluge.

While underscoring the challenges, Governor Shah acknowledged that federal assistance has been beneficial not only for restoration work but also for bolstering the local tourism industry, viewing it as a positive signal for the regional economy.

Governor Tessori concurred, noting that the timely completion of developmental initiatives is crucial for alleviating public problems and that progress in sectors like tourism will significantly benefit the national economy.
