In a developing story, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed was reportedly kidnapped from Peshawar on Monday night, prompting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to order an immediate police response and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the FIR filed on the Chief Minister’s instructions, Javed was intercepted around 10:30 PM as she was traveling toward the Cantonment area after dining at a local café. Her vehicle was blocked by two other cars, from which five unidentified men emerged and forcibly took her away.
Provincial authorities confirmed that a case has been officially registered following the CM’s directives. An investigation is now underway to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in the incident. Officials have assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to bring the perpetrators to justice under the law.
This incident follows a recent conviction for Javed, who was sentenced to five years in prison by a Lahore anti-terrorism court for her connection to the May 9, 2023 arson at Shadman Police Station. She has faced multiple arrests over the past year, including one on April 27 for allegedly disseminating propaganda against state institutions online.
Javed’s family has also been under legal scrutiny. Her sister, Falak Javed, was taken into custody last month by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on allegations of creating and circulating manipulated videos of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.
The legal challenges for Javed and other PTI members stem from the widespread unrest on May 9, 2023, which erupted after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The nationwide protests saw violent mobs attacking government and military installations, including the Core Commander House in Lahore and the General Headquarters gate in Rawalpindi, resulting in at least eight fatalities and 290 injuries.
In the aftermath of the violence, authorities launched a significant crackdown, leading to the arrest of approximately 1,900 individuals. Numerous cases were filed against Imran Khan, senior PTI leaders, and party workers for their alleged role in the May 9 riots.
