Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh Ameer Kashif Saeed Sheikh has alleged that the Sindh government is committing the “economic murder” of paddy growers by being a silent spectator to falling prices and illegal deductions, while he also warned that a conspiracy to abolish the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) would be a serious violation of the Constitution.

Expressing deep concern over the plight of those associated with agriculture, Mr. Sheikh demanded that the provincial administration not only immediately set the official support price for paddy but also ensure its strict implementation. He accused the authorities of destroying the agricultural sector to benefit capitalists and compared it to past injustices faced by wheat farmers. He said, “Paddy farmers in Sindh are protesting for justice, but the rulers are not paying heed.”

Speaking on the constitutional matter, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader stressed that any attempt to dissolve IRSA would be a violation of the 18th Constitutional Amendment. He argued that bypassing the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to form a new authority is an unconstitutional move that follows attempts to end the province’s autonomy over its mineral resources.

Mr. Sheikh expressed these views while talking to various delegations at the Jamaat-e-Islami office in Larkana, where District Ameer Advocate Nadir Ali Khoso and other local leaders were also present. On this occasion, several individuals from Daro and Sachal Town, led by Parvez Ali Sheikh, announced their joining the political party.
