LARKANA: On the call of Sindh Union Council Employees Association, the employees of 20 Union Committees of Larkana City held a protest demonstration outside the Income Tax office here on Monday against illegal deduction of tax from their funds.
They burnt paddy straws and blocked Larkana-Wagan Road where the female and male sanitary workers holding sweeps and daggers in their hands shouted slogans against grave injustice. While talking to media persons, Asif Chandio, Chifa Areejo, Humair Gad, Mustafa Jatoi, Irfan Shaikh, Zahid Chawan and others complained that Income Tax Assistant Commissioner and Inspector had forcibly deducted Rs9.4 million from the accounts of 10 Union Committees of Larkana and Rs6.6 million from the accounts of six Union Councils of Ratodero which they termed unlawful and high-handedness whereas they claimed that they pay taxes.
They said that due to uncalled for sudden deduction their salaries had not yet been paid which also include daily wagers for which they are extremely worried because their family members are at the verge of starvation in this unprecedented inflation era. They said due to nonpayment they have stopped their cleanliness and sanitation work due to which garbage is accumulating in Larkana city for which both income tax officials should be held responsible.
They urged the prime minister of Pakistan, Sindh Chief Minister, relevant FBR and other officers to look into the issue immediately and refund the deducted amount so that salaries could be disbursed to them. They warned that if their salaries are not paid to them quickly, then they will throw the entire unlifted garbage in front of the income tax office and hold protests across the district.
