Quetta:Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, a candidate of ruling party Balochistan Awami Party won general seat of Senate from Balochistan Monday by securing 38 votes. Ghulam Nabi Marri of Balochistan National Party secured 23 votes while the candidate of Pushtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party Muhammad Hanif got only 1 vote.
The polling for Senate election on one seat from Balochistan was held with election commissioner Asrar Khan as the Returning Officer. Polling continued from 9 am to 4 pm without any break at the Balochistan Provincial Assembly building which had been declared the polling station. 63 members of Balochistan Provincial Assembly cast their vote out of 65 members.
Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, MPA and Provincial President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Balochistan and Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri erstwhile Chief Minister Balochistan did not cast their votes.
Manzoor Ahmed Kakar candidate of Balochistan Awami Party was having support of Awami National Party while JUI (F) favoured Ghulam Nabi Marri of Balochistan National Party. The said Senate seat had fallen vacant due to the death of Sardar Muhammad Azam Musakhail of Pushtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party.
