KARACHI:Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) has written letters to the head of the states of Nicaragua, Honduras, Mozambique, Turkey and the Democratic Republic of the Congo protesting incidents of attacks on journalists and media houses around the world.
According to a statement on Monday, PPF in its letter to Daniel Ortega, President of Nicaragua has expressed concern over the raid in the office of online magazine ‘Confidencial’ and urged the Nicaraguan authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure such incidents not happen in future.
In a letter to Juan Orlando Hernandez, President of Honduras PPF has expressed concern over the threatening message to Erick Pineda, correspondent of ‘Radio Progreso’ and urged the authorities to independently and thoroughly investigate such incidents of attacks on journalists and media workers in Honduras.
In another letter to Filipe Nyusi, President of Mozambique, PPF has expressed concern over the detention of a journalist along with a researcher and driver. PPF termed it an act to threaten journalists from investigating any story and called on the authorities to stop targeting journalists and media professional and allow them to freely fulfill their journalistic responsibilities.
PPF in it’s a letter to Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, President of Turkey has expressed concern over the arrest of journalist and writer Hakan Gülseven and called on the Turkish authorities to immediately release the journalist and drop all charges against him.
PPF in a letter to Bruno Tshibala, Prime Minister of Democratic Republic of the Congo, has expressed concern over the arrest and assault on Rodrigue Ndakazieka, a journalist and technician at Radio Mwinda, and called on the authorities to immediately release him.
