Srinagar, February 09, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) organized a daylong programme at Tarzoo, Sopore, the ancestral home of martyred liberation leader, Muhammad Afzal Guru, on his sixth martyrdom anniversary, today. Indian authorities had executed Muhammad Afzal Afzal in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013.
Senior workers and office bearers of DFP had raised banners and posters at the residence of Afzal Guru and the party received the guests throughout the day who participated in the daylong programme to remember the martyred leader.
Addressing the participants of the gathering, DFP leaders said that Kashmir resistance history was full of the stories of brave hearts who were the real heroes of the Kashmiris. They said that hanging of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt could not deterred Kashmiri people from demanding their right to self-determination and it had instead produced thousands of Afzals and Maqbools who were continuously scripting an extraordinary history of resistance.
The DFP leaders appealed to the world human rights organizations including the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Asia Watch and Amnesty International to impress upon India to return the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt to their legal heirs for decent burial.
