LARKANA: The first five-day Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Book Festival was jointly inaugurated by Larkana’s assistant commissioner Ahmed Ali Soomro and ASP City Ahmed Faisal Chaudhry at Jinnah Bagh Thursday which will continue till next week.
The book festival is organised with the cooperation of Sindhica Academy and district administration and the books will be available for sale upto 50% discount. Books published by Sindhica Academy, Sindhi Adabi Board, Sambara Publication, Kanwal Publication, Culture Department, Rahbar Book Academy, Roshni Publication, Peacock Publication, Jawad Kitab Ghar, Book World, Standard Book Online, Indus Books and other publications have been displayed at 12 book stalls.
Books on literature, history, research, politics, science, general knowledge and other topics have been kept for the interested buyers in Sindhi, English and Urdu languages which will be sold at 30 to 50% cheaper than the market price.
AC Ahmed Ali Soomro said while addressing the ceremony that the book is one of the best friends of a human being which led him to glory and increases his intelligence and knowledge. He said children and youngsters are wasting their precious time and health these days on mobile phones and laptops but they dislike to read online books. He said our generation must learn from these books which our elders have written for them based on their lifelong experiences.
Organisers Sarmad Malook, Kamran Shaikh, Babar Kalhoro and others said it’s a very cumbersome job to write and publish a book. They said that book festivals enhance the interest of book lovers to buy new books and also attract others to book reading.
Prof. Ihsan Danish, Prof. Badar Dhamrah, Aziz Qasmani and others said that book reading habit has reduced due to which negativity among the society has also increased. They said book reading will reduce such negative effects in the society’s thinking. They said publishing books in Sindhi is a marvelous thing which should be commended and people should buy books in their mother tongue so that it could flourish unhindered.
