Srinagar, August 21, 2021 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Indian police on Saturday barred relatives and neighbours of a martyred youth in Khrew area of Pulwama district from holding a condolence meeting and filed a case for violation of COVID-19 protocols. The police also seized a tent and several carpets from the house of Musaib Shah, who was martyred by Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in Khrew, yesterday.
The family of Shah had set up a tent and laid carpets for the condolence meetings in the compound of their house at Khrew, few kilometers outside Srinagar city. However, the police did not allow the condolence event, saying that the gathering was violative of the COVID-19 restrictions. Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Mohamad Yousuf, told media that an FIR into the matter has been registered and an investigation has been set into motion.
The police action to bar the condolence meeting at a martyred youth’s house on the charges of violating COVID-19 restrictions has come at a time when there is more than a year-long ban on funerals and public burials of the slain youth. The police have not handed over the bodies of the martyred youth to their families for more than a year now, fearing that the funeral may turn into anti-India demonstrations. The bodies have been buried at remote locations in different mountainous areas.
