KARACHI:The employees of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have expressed concern over delay in promotions and demanded of the Sindh government to urgently call a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting to upgrade the staff in order to end uncertainty prevalent in the staff.
The doctors, nurses and paramedical staff have not been promoted in higher grades after devolution of institution from the federal to Sindh government in 2012. The score of doctors, nurses and paramedics had retired from their posts in last nine year but no new hiring and promotions were done since devaluation of the hospital.
An official at JPMC told PPI that there are 2,600 posts of employees in hospitals, including, professors, assistant professors, resident medical officers, doctor, paramedics, nurses, and others, out of which 1300 are lying vacant since last nine year. The shortage of staff has badly affected the functioning of this health facility.
The JPMC administration has tried several times to promote doctors, nurses and others in next grade and moved a summery to Sindh government, but some hidden hands stopped this process. The delay in promotions has created uncertainty among the employees.
A senior paramedical staffer held both the JPMC management and Sindh health department responsible for using delaying tactics in lower staff promotions. He claimed that Dr Seemin Jamali had been promoted as Executive Director (BS-21) by using her influence through Chief Minister Sindh while other senior faculty members got promotions and other benefits via Jinnah Sindh Medical University but lower grade staff have been deprived of the promotions.
