KARACHI: Punjab Assembly Speaker Sabtain Khan said Thursday that the No-Confidence Motion had been filed against Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, therefore, the assembly could not be dissolved tomorrow (Friday).
Punjab Speaker talked to media persons here in Lahore on Thursday evening. Speaker Sabtain Khan said Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman cannot de-notify the Chief Minister because the governor cannot call a new session in the ongoing assembly session.
Highlighting the legal aspects of the de-notification of the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Speaker Sabtain asked the Governor of Punjab not to issue illegal orders. Sabtain Khan said No-Confidence Motion has just been received by the Speaker’s Office and notice is yet to be given and there are chances that the matter may go up to the first week of January.
He further stated that the governor’s allegations against Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi were not related to the governor. He also confirmed that a letter was ready to be sent to President Dr Arif Alvi but has been put on hold for now.
PA Speaker said they want to dissolve Punjab Assembly and go to the people in elections. To a query, he said it is not his job to protect the Chief Minister, he only has to ensure the sanctity of the House. Speaker Sabtian said in the letter, the governor talked about taking a vote of confidence and he has replied to the Governor’s letter.
