LARKANA: Panic created when Izzat Ji Wandh village residents noticed erosion of Nusrat Loop Bund by mighty Indus River near Naundero on Saturday.

The villagers who were displaced due to the heavy rainfall and were sitting on the embankment immediately informed the irrigation department engineers but nobody listened to their cries. A social media activist made a video and uploaded it on his account which was not only noticed by the journalists but also other people. Another activist tagged it to provincial Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro who immediately directed the irrigation officials to reach the spot along with heavy machinery and fill the erosion. In the meantime local media persons also arrived.

Villagers present on the occasion including Imdad Sheikh, Faiz Muhammad Sheikh, Bero Narejo, Rashid Ahmed and others said that due to the rain we are already displaced and sitting on the embankment without any relief as nothing has so far been done for us. They said that the condition of the Indus River embankments has become very weak due to no work since years, hence water is eroding the Bund from backside of the Bund up to 150 ft length which is dangerous.

They said God forbid if any breach is occurred that Larkana can also sink including Naundero, Garhi Khuda Bux and our villages. After the news spread on the social media, the officials of the irrigation department also reached where the efforts were made to close the erosion due to the rain by calling for heavy machinery.

Superintendent Engineer, Right Bank, Amjad Issani of Irrigation Department, who was present on the occasion, said that this is not the current of the river and the Bunds of the river are not weak but strong, which will not be affected by the coming flood, he claimed. He said that this is due to heavy rain for which we have brought machinery and started work to close it which will be completed soon.

Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoiro on his social media account said that its Nusrat Loop Bund second embankment and first LS embankment is also there. He said that it is not breach but rain damage and then shared a video of the repair work.
