The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench delivered a landmark ruling on Tuesday, ordering the live broadcast of all proceedings related to petitions challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment, opening a significant case to public scrutiny.

The decision came after the bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, initially heard arguments on the matter. Counsels for the petitioners urged the judiciary to first rule on the live streaming request, ensuring the public could witness the court’s formation process and related submissions.

During the hearing, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail remarked on the dual nature of such transparency. ‘Our tragedy is that we tend to misuse everything. We want to use live streaming to educate people, which is why proceedings should be broadcast live-but it also exposes us.’

Following the arguments, the judicial panel briefly reserved its judgment before announcing its approval of the requests to televise the case.

While issuing the order, Justice Aminuddin Khan put the onus on the legal representatives, stating, ‘It is up to the lawyers to manage how they will present their arguments-we are here to serve the nation.’

The constitutional bench then adjourned the hearing of the petitions against the 26th Constitutional Amendment until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
