Pakistan and Malaysia have embarked on an ambitious journey to deepen their technological collaboration, with a significant focus on developing joint ventures in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and 5G infrastructure, following a high-level meeting between top officials.

The discussions took place between Pakistan’s Commerce Minister, Mr. Jam Kamal Khan, and Malaysia”s Minister for Digital, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference in Kuala Lumpur, according to the commerce ministry report today.

Both ministers underscored the critical role of digital transformation in boosting trade and investment. The dialogue centered on expanding e-commerce platforms, enabling cross-border digital services, and reinforcing cybersecurity cooperation between the two nations.

A key development from the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT and ITeS (P@sha) and the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM). Both officials expressed optimism that this agreement will substantially enhance digital linkages.

During their visit, the two ministers also jointly inaugurated the TechConnect Conference, delivering keynote addresses to an assembly of leading and emerging technology companies from both countries. The event featured prominent organizations including MDEC, Cyberview, the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association, AWS, and Oracle.

Participants at the conference engaged in presentations and networking sessions aimed at exploring innovative solutions and identifying new business opportunities. This event followed a successful and productive meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Commerce Minister was in Malaysia as part of the official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his state visit from October 5-7.
