KARACHI:Aafia Movement Pakistan leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui is currently visiting Turkey on the invitation of different Turkish political, social, human and women’s rights organizations in connection with the global struggle for release of the daughter of the nation Dr Aafia Siddiqui from American detention.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, during this visit, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui is attending programs and receptions at Istanbul, Ankara and other cities besides giving interviews to different newspapers and TV channels. Previous day, she met with Vice President of KADEM Women and Democracy Association Sumeyye Erdogan, who is also the daughter of the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. On this occasion, Dr Fowzia presented her Pakistani traditional cultural gifts of Kashmiri shawl, Ajrak and Sindhi cap.
Sumeyye Erdogan shared the picture and details of her meeting with Dr Fowzia Siddiqui on her Twitter account and said that Aafia was kidnapped from Pakistan in 2003 and America sentenced her for 86 years without any evidence against her, which is an inhuman act. She said for last 18 years Aafia has been kept in solitary confinement. She said that even American judge has confessed that she was sentenced without any evidence against her. She said I met her sister Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, who is traveling in different parts of the world in connection with her campaign for release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
However, Dr Fowzia paid rich tributes to the people and media of Turkey for supporting the just cause of the release of Dr Aafia, She said the Turkish people have not forgotten the role of the Muslims of subcontinent to support the Khilafat Movement. She said that the Pakistani people would also not forget the great support of Turkish people, media, political, social, human and women rights organizations that are raising voice against injustices being meted out to Dr Aafia Siddiqui. They have expressed concern and agony over illegal detention of Aafia for more than 18 years. They are also wondering why the government of Pakistan has failed so far to seek the release of Dr Aafia.
Dr Aafia talking on the role of Muslim Ummah in this regard has said that had the Ummah united for the cause of the Muslim daughter Dr Aafia, she would not have been kept in detention, which has caused disgrace for the Muslims in whole world.
