NAB is strictly pursuing the policy of ‘Accountability for All’: Chairman Nab

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): A meeting of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was held under the chairmanship of Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB to review overall performance of NAB at NAB Headquarter. Hussain Asgar, Deputy Chairman NAB, Syed Asghar Haider, Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA), Zahir Shah, DG Operations NAB and other senior officers of NAB were present at the meeting. While DG’s of all regional bureaus attended the meeting via video link. Honourable Justice Mr. Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB said that NAB is strictly pursuing the policy of accountability for all.

NAB is an apex anti-corruption organization of the country which has assigned a gigantic task of eradication of corruption and to recover looted money from corrupt elements. Chairman NAB said that taking mega corruption cases/white collar crime cases to logical conclusion is top most priority of NAB. NAB strongly believes in conducting the inquiries and investigations of white collar crimes on scientific lines that too after collecting solid evidence as per law.

During the meeting, it was informed that out of 179 mega corruption cases, NAB had filed 97 corruption references in different accountability courts, while 57 references had been taken to logical conclusion. Currently, out of 179 mega corruption references, 10 inquiries and 15 investigations are under process. The meeting reviewed the latest progress on Reko Dek project reference filed in Accountability Court Quetta about causing a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer. The Honourable Chairman NAB directed all Regional Bureaus for logical conclusion of all cases as per law. He said that NAB’s top most priority is to eradicate the menace of corruption with zero tolerance in order to ensure corruption free Pakistan. The performance of nab has been lauded by the reputed national and international organizations. The World Economic Forum and Transparency as NAB has recovered Rs. 466 billion since its inception with a conviction ratio of 68.8 percent. Chairman NAB directed the officials to complete complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations so that the looted amount could be deposited in the national exchequer.

Sikh community to celebrate first anniversary of opening of Kartarpur Corridor tomorrow

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Sikh community all around the world are set to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of Kartarpur Corridor tomorrow. On this day, last year, Prime Minister Imran Khan fulfilled the cherished desire of up to 30 million Sikhs around the world, for whom the Kartarpur corridor is one of their holiest places. The opening of corridor was widely recognized as ‘a new symbol of peace’ by the world community which also took place on the eve of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

AJK President, PM both condemn firing by Indian forces at Neelum valley along LoC

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan and Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan have strongly condemned the unprovoked firing by the Indian occupation forces at civilian populations of Neelum valley along the Line of Control. They also expressed sympathies with the families of those martyred and said that the Indian aggressive posturing is a threat to the peace of the entire region.

Pakistan lodges strong protest with India over its CFV at Rakhchikri sector along LoC

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India over its recent ceasefire violation at Rakhchikri sector along the Line of Control in which four civilian embraced martyrdom and three wounded. A senior Indian diplomat was summoned to the Foreign Office to register the protest. In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry said the Indian occupation forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary have been continuously targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-caliber mortars and automatic weapons.

Condemning the deplorable targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian occupation forces, the spokesperson said India cannot divert attention from the grave human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu Kashmir by raising tensions along the LoC and the working boundary. The Indian side was called upon to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, investigate this and other such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC and the WB.

Pakistan urges debt suspension until developing countries’ recover from coronavirus’ havoc

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has called on Group of 20 nations to extend suspension of debt payments until coronavirus-hit developing countries recovered from economic devastation. Speaking at annual ministerial meeting of Group of 77 and China, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations, Munir Akram said COVID pandemic has devastated economies of many countries adding multi-dimensional challenges. Highlighting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative for debt relief, Ambassador Akram stressed need that debt suspension by G-20 should be extended until the period that we recover from the pandemic.

Hafeez directs FBR to simplify relevant procedures in revenue collection

Islamabad, November 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has directed the Federal Board of Revenue to simplify relevant procedures ensuring clarity and transparency in revenue collection. He was chairing a virtual meeting of FBR Technical Committee in Islamabad on Friday.

After due deliberation, it was decided to engage experts as co-opted members to streamline the working of the Technical Committee. During the meeting, ‘FASTER’ system of Sales Tax Refund for exporters was appreciated. It was agreed that both FASTER and Rebates Systems would be fine-tuned for more efficient results on priority basis.
